Now that Town Meeting has passed, the library is ready to begin a new fiscal year. We're pleased to say that we will be here, offering services to the Bridgewater community. We'd like to thank all who went to Town Meeting. The amount of money budgeted for the library is not large but will allow us to stay open 14 hours a week.
The news hours, beginning July 1st, are: Tuesday, 2-8; Wednesday 1-5 and Thursday 9-1. This is a change from our current hours so please help us spread the word.

Yes, we're very sad about our budget reduction of almost $159,000, which will keep us open a very limited number of hours. We are losing 5 dedicated employees.
ReplyDeleteIn fiscal year 2009 our budget was $373,513 and in 2010 it is $215,000, so you can see what a loss this is, especially in the context of earlier losses dating back several years.
However, our remaining staff and our board of trustees are committed to providing the best library service possible, given the reduced circumstances.
Our Summer Reading Program for children age 12 and under is beginning July 7th. This is a non-competitive program designed to keep kids reading throughout the summer. It's also a good time to introduce children to new authors and new genres of literature. Our Friends of the Library have given us money to purchase lots of new children's books, so stop in and have a look during our open hours. Our staff will be happy to help you and your children find something appropriate and interesting.
On another topic, if you're taking a "staycation" this summer and will be doing day-trips, stop by the Reference Desk and pick up a copy of the 2009-2010 Massachusetts Getaway Guide, a free publication provided by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
We hope to see you soon at the public library!
Mary
For adults, this weekend I heard Child 44 is interesting.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can do a book discussion here on the blog.
